The village of Kerkini with a population of 1445 people has taken its name from the lake Kerkini. The village liesvery close to the lake and has a small pier from where visitors can take a boat trip.
There are many facilities for the tourists (hotels, taverns, cafes, boat trips, horse rides, etc.). One of the major disadvantages of the village is the lack of efficient public transport.
Every year the Cultural Club organizes two events. The first one is at 21st of May and it is called “Anastenaria” -  a barefoot dance on smouldering embers. The second is at the Feast of the Holy Spirit (in the beginning of June) accompanied by horse races and wrestling.
