Probably the most famous village in the area is Ano Poroia with a population of 1530 people. It is situated at the foot of Mount Belles and northwest of Lake Kerkini at an altitude of 385 meters. The beauty of the mountains, the abundant crystal waters, the huge shady trees, the dense forested slopes, the pleasant and healthy climate attract many visitors. The village keeps the characteristics of Macedonian architecture brought by the Vlach-speaking Greeks from Epirus and Western Macedonia. Later, in 1922 , Asia Minor refugees settled into the village. A visitor can find a lot of traditional taverns, cafes and very good hotels with friendly environment and excellent service.
