The village belongs to the municipality of Sintikis with a population of 2338 people according to Population Census (2011). It lies north-east from lake Kerkini. The village has an easy access as the National Road Serres-Kilkis passes through it.
In 1923, the first people who came to the village were 179 refugee families from Asia Minor. Also people with Bulgarian origin from the village of Starchovo settled to the area. Neo Petrichi,s church is named after St. Demetrius.
Every year on St. George’s day, on the day of St. Minas (11 November) and of St. Demetrius (26 October) there are festivities taking place in the village. The Local Cultural Club organizes a “Youth Festival” every summer and a carnival parade in winter.
