In the region of Mount Kerkini (Belasitsa mountain) the most common rocks are gneiss and migmatitis in a mixture of shale, gneiss, quartz etc. The soils resulting from the disintegration of the above rocks are typically sand clay and in few cases - clay-sand. The depth and fertility vary depending on its origin, disintegrating agents, climate (humidity, temperature), biochemical factors, flora, fauna, local configuration (slope, exposure, etc.), the density of forest cover as a source of enrichment with organic substances (Psilovikos 1994).
