The village officially has a population of 1099 residents. It can be reached by train from Serres or Thessaloniki or by car via the national Road Serres-Kilkis.
It is the commercial centre of the area with many shops and a bank office. There is a Cultural Club which organizes folklore dance lessons, painting classes, chess, etc. Also the Hellenic Mountaineering and Environmental Club "Belles" is here aiming to promote and protect the natural beauty of the neighboring mountains (mountains of Kerkini and Disoro).
